ZunderFury Live!

ZunderFury is complete and live!
It uses roughly the same engine as OrbBlaster, but with bitmap rendering instead of vector for much better performance when displaying hundreds of enemies. The shmup gameplay is more traditional, and straightforward.
ZunderFury features an upgrade system after many players mentioned that they would’ve enjoyed upgrading in OrbBlaster. There is also an achievement system for those who would like to take on different challenges beside reaching the highest score.
There are two different ship types each with its own unique weapon, so be sure to try out both. As always, please contact me or leave a comment below if you have any suggestion, comment, or bug to report!
Happy blasting!

ZunderFury…
ZunderFury is a nicely done arena shooter written in Flash. It’s refreshing in a few different ways. The cartoon style that Flash lends itself to is rarely seen in this type of game, and works quite well. Another thing that struck me was the e…

How exactly does the “multiplyer” work? It seems very random every time I play.
January 20th, 2008 at 10:47 pm
The multiplier increases every interval number of enemies you kill without dying. It resets to 1x when you die.
For example, if you kill 50 without dying, it’ll increase to 2x. If you kill 150 without dying, it’ll increase to 3x, and so on.

Your game is great. The only thing that I would mention is to not allow spawning of enemies under your own ship. It later levels it becomes really hard to get by with random stuff like that.

hmm, i think the game needs some tuning, the curve is kind of high?

I really like this game! Though I’m not great at it.
I’d like more info on money; is there anything one can do to gain more by a certain phase?
also, an interesting twist might be to earn interest on stockpiled money.

Money is gained per mob that you kill. There’s no other tricks to it, though. I think I might lower the upgrade costs today.

Fun enough game. The issues I can spot:
1. Stuff spawning on top of you. A little check in the game logic to prevent this goes a long way. The ship should have a sphere of influence that is a no spawn zone.
2. Off-screen attacks. If something goes off screen either kill it or respawn it. It’s just really cheap to be killed by a homing piece of ship that loops around and gets you from off-screen.
3. No aim cursor. It gets really annoying to not know the fire arc of your weapon or lose track of your cursor.
4. Fury’s weapon is too weak. Fury’s weapon is no different than Zunder’s, it’s just a different bitmap and a shorter range. A better weapon for Fury would be something that does half damage, but passes through enemies and damages multiple ones.
5. Prices go up too quickly. They should go up, but a more linear progression rather than an exponential one.
When you have a game which “one hit = one death”, try keep the cheap shots to a minimum. Apart from that, good game.

Me again! still playing! this game is great. One thing that I’d really like to see is if once you beat a certain number of feats it allows you to start at level 10 with reasonable weapons and speed(4 and 3, or 4 and 4). I find now that I’m reasonable at the game I only start ‘having fun’ once I get to level 10 or 11, and it’d be great if I could start there.
also an interesting touch might be an interest function on stocked credits. giving an incentive to trying harder levels with an underpowered ship. not sure how well it’d work though.

u now have two games but wat if u mix up both zunderfury and orbblaster together to make orbfury would that be cool

What are the feats in the game?
March 9th, 2008 at 6:47 am
Can someone list how to get all the feats?
March 9th, 2008 at 1:02 pm
Anonymous: each feat tells you how to get them. Like, the one that says “get a score multiplier of x3,” you get by… having a game in which your score multiplier reaches x3.
Something I didn’t find very intuitive: the feats that are like, “complete level 9 without firing your weapon or losing a life,” when I first read it, I thought it meant get up through level 9 without ever firing your weapon or losing a life. Only after I tried that a bit and satisfied myself that it was literally impossible did I realize that it meant, “you can fire your weapon through levels 1-8, just do level 9 without firing.”
Doogog: is the Fury’s weapon more damaging? It’s a little hard to tell, but it seems that way when you’re fighting the yellow orbs at level 21+, which the fully upgraded Zunder’s weapon seems to have a hard time killing, but the fully upgraded Fury’s weapon doesn’t. But maybe it’s just that the Fury’s fire is denser, with more shots on top of it?
I like the Fury, and do well with it, but the high scores list seems to indicate that the Zunder is the better choice.
Finally, I was wondering about spawned mobs, like the little homing missiles that the big stationary mobs spit out. Do they give you score and/or money? If they do, that seems exploitable.

how do you gain 500,000 with a weapon in level 1???? its just too impossible!
April 4th, 2008 at 7:42 pm
hey Doogog. great game… I would love to see fancier graphics, but that’s just my artist heart… the graphic options for these games are limitless since it’s really about the game mechanic itself… I can’t believe people are scoring that high on ZunderFury. I guess I’ve become really bad at games.

really good game…I’m not keen on arcade games like this but its got me hooked. lol.
1.Would be nice to have a bigger upgrade range, with better weapons, like gernades or something cheaper that is not the bomb (if ya get me)
2. Some enemy’s spawn underneath you and kill ya, needs fixing!
3.I like the off screen attacks, gives u time to kill the others until it comes back on the screen.
Great game! Cant wait to see number 2!
May 20th, 2008 at 2:29 am
oh, and it would be good if ure money gains interest like the multiplier on score. The more you kill in a row, the more money u get from one kill.

This game really needs a modality in which you fight directly versus a bunch of enemies without starting always from level 1.
